Ignorance about one’s condition is often exploited, and they fall prey to fake treatments and
needlessmedicationleading to extremely adverse impact. This can drive out whatever mobility
they possess and breaks the economic backbone of the family. This grim reality can be changed
only by spreading awareness, which is the prime aim of MinD.
🔸A Meeting was conducted by Dr.ArunSasthri on 1st May 2017 regarding the condition.
🔸An episode in “Choonduviral” in MalayalaManorama, followed by other channels like Asianet, Mathrubhoomi, 24 News, and Media One was arranged.
🔸A brochure was released which included the government initiatives for the affected ones.
🔸A Meet up was held on 18th October 2018 named ‘UNARV- 2018’ at Abhayam Special School Auditorium, Calicut, including artistic events and session on the disease by Dr.Idiris.
🔸UNARV officially launched on December 3rd,2018 in SNM College, Mallyankara. In addition, sessions were conducted in colleges across Kerala.
🔸A meet up on 19th January 2019 named ‘MinD-25’ was conducted at Nedumbassery, Ernakulam. Sessions were taken by a panel of doctors.
🔸Continuous awareness programs were broadcast through MalayalamManorama and Mathrubhoomi. It also featured in the online platforms of The Hindu and Indian Express.
🔸A 30 day social media campaign was arranged from August 2020 named ‘SMA Awareness Campaign’ with the tagline’NiramullaSwapnangalkkuOruTheliVelicham’, raising awareness and spreading the necessity of ‘ORIDAM’ the dream project of MinD. Celebrities, artists, and channels became a part of it.
🔸A session on ‘Social Development in Children’ was conducted on 7th September 2020 by Dr.Priya Thomas, following cultural events.
🔸A class on ‘Advanced New Drug Experiments in Field of Medicines’ was held on 28th September 2020.
🔸A day long webinar led by doctors was conducted on the 4th Annual Day Celebration of MinD and oganized “PRATIDI” for discussing emerging technologies and developments in new treatment methods.
🔸With the help of the Volunteer Wing of MinD, Koott, various awareness programmes in colleges, schools and other social service organizations across Kerala are planned.
🔸2 webinars per month are planned to be conducted providing latest information about the disease, social welfare schemes and other information.
🔸The Main goal of UNARV is to bring a widespread awareness in society about Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Muscular Dystrophy by 2024.
🔸UNARV tries to create awareness among doctors and medical staff about these diseases under the leadership of Dr.SureshChandran CJ, MBBS,MD (AIIMS), DM (Neuro), Chief Coordinator and Sr.Consultant at KIM’S Hospital, Trivandrum.
Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust was formed in 2017, by us patients suffering from Muscular Dystrophy (MD) & Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). In 2016, we started off as a small Whatsapp group of patients reaching out to each other.
