Support for access to wheelchair

Muscular Dystrophy /Atrophy is a progressive condition due to which muscles get weaker day by day. This affects the mobility of the person eventually traps them within a home environment. The condition has no cure as of now and basic treatment is through therapies.
Persons with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) can overcome restriction in their movement to an extent through accessing the support of wheelchairs. Access to infrastructure assistance through wheelchairs can enable them for accessing more opportunities and to achieve self-empowerment.
A total of 145 people need wheelchair support and they are currently cannot fulfil this need due to financial restrictions. Out of 145 people, 118 persons require an electric wheelchair. 13 needs to be occupied with a commode wheelchair and 10 needs a normal wheelchair for the betterment of their living condition. There are also requirements of 1 patient shifting chair, 1 remote wheelchair, 1 reclining wheelchair and 1 office chair.

  • Survey conducted among MinD beneficiaries shows the need of jobs by 261 respondents and 28 persons are wanting medical support. There are 10 people who are expecting rehabilitation facilities for the betterment of their living conditions
  • For building education facilities for children with Muscular Dystrophy and Spinal Muscular Atrophy, 2 mobile phones, 3 laptops, 2 printing machine and financial support for 2 individuals are in demand.
  • Due to difficulties in access and movement 1 person needs a ramp facility at their home and 1 person requires road facility to their home.

Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust was formed in 2017, by us patients suffering from Muscular Dystrophy (MD) & Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). In 2016, we started off as a small Whatsapp group of patients reaching out to each other.
