“Learn English feel English” Speakers Club is an initiative of Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust designed to support individuals living with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in improving their English language and communication skills. Many people with these conditions often face challenges in public speaking and interaction due to limited opportunities for practice, which can affect their confidence, career prospects, and ability to engage in wider social and professional environments. Recognizing the importance of English language proficiency and communication skills in education, employment, and public engagement, Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust established the Speakers Club in 2021 as a platform for learning, practice, and personal development. The initiative is coordinated by the executive members of MIND Trust and provides structured opportunities for beneficiaries to strengthen their grammar, expand vocabulary, and develop effective speaking skills. A total of 31 individuals have benefited from the Speakers Club program, conducted through 5 batches, with each batch consisting of 22–24 sessions. Through the Speakers Club, participants engage in a variety of interactive learning activities such as preparing and presenting topics of their choice, participating in spot discussions, debates, and reviews of books and cinema. These activities create a supportive environment where participants can practice speaking in English regularly and gain confidence in expressing their ideas. The program also includes interactive sessions with invited guests, where students receive opportunities to speak in English, participate in question-and-answer discussions, and receive guidance in public speaking. These sessions help participants refine their communication abilities while learning from experienced speakers and mentors. And to speaking skills, the Speakers Club also focuses on improving writing abilities. Beneficiaries are encouraged to prepare articles, book reviews, and other written content that strengthens their language proficiency and creative expression. Over time, these efforts have contributed to improved academic performance among participants, including success in competitive examinations. With consistent practice, mentorship, and supportive learning spaces, the Speakers Club has helped many beneficiaries build stronger communication skills, develop confidence, and prepare themselves for greater opportunities in education, employment, and social engagement.
Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust was formed in 2017, by us patients suffering from Muscular Dystrophy (MD) & Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). In 2016, we started off as a small Whatsapp group of patients reaching out to each other.
With enthusiastic employees and volunteers, we are ready to support you no matter any time.
