“Know me for my abilities, not my disability.”
-Robert M. Hensel
The word space has multidimensional meanings depending on what it’s conformed to. All living organisms in this world have their own unique space diversely distributed in the environment, which when slotted together, forms the puzzle we call the ecosystem. It is crucial to address each and every individual in this puzzle and acknowledge the role they play. This can only be done by addressing their needs, rights, and fundamentally accepting them as human beings. This gives them a meaningful space in the society.
A true community is not just about being geographically close to someone or part of the same social web network. It’s about feeling connected and responsible for what happens. Humanity is our ultimate community, and everyone plays a crucial role. Individuals flourish to their true potential only in environments that recognize, encourage and value their need in this world. This is what makes humans a social animal. Disabled, physically challenged, label it whatever you want, are not welcomed by the society. They are viewed through the prism of sympathy and branded as incapable members of society. But judging them solely by their physical capabilities doesn’t give justice to defining their potential nor what they are and can become. The challenge is to focus on a person’s ability, not their limitations. Everyone has something to contribute to the world. It’s just a matter of being given that opportunity to do so.
So it is essential to find such individuals and support them to the fullest so that they can rise from the darkness of dogmas and discrimination into the light of liberty. We at MinD truly believe that everyone has a talent, skill and ability that they can hone to support themselves and succeed in life.
MinD TRUST MAGAZINE has been formed to bring such stifled individuals brimming with untapped potential into the limelight. The magazine with its limited financial and skill infrastructure has resorted to a digital form (E- magazine), considering the pandemic scenario and the emerging digital reading era. MinD Trust Magazine was published by renowned author and speaker Shaukath on November 2020. The trust has gone through its fair share of hard times, but we’ve overcome it as a family with high spirit and serendipity. The magazine showcases charming stories, travel-logs, riveting poems, exotic art and culture along with awareness seminars about a number of socio-cultural challenges.
The MinD Trust Magazine is the face of the hopes, dreams and desires of all its members for a world where physically challenged minorities will not be seen as disabled, but as people who have and will continue to bloom. A world where they will not be seen as handicaps, but as well-intact human beings with flesh, blood and flowering dreams.
MinD hopes to go a long way with its vibrant passion and enthusiasm in tackling the concerns of physically challenged people and giving them a platform to shine. The trust heartily welcomes and needs the support of dedicated individuals and social groups to make this dream a reality.
Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust was formed in 2017, by us patients suffering from Muscular Dystrophy (MD) & Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). In 2016, we started off as a small Whatsapp group of patients reaching out to each other.
With enthusiastic employees and volunteers, we are ready to support you no matter any time.
