Susheelam

Susheelam

“Heals and enlight” The term “Susheelam,” meaning “Better Living Practices,” represents the encouragement of healthy and sustainable habits that support both the body and the mind. The project reflects the importance of adopting positive lifestyle practices that contribute to overall well-being and quality of life. Susheelam is a project initiated by Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust in 2020 with the objective of improving the mental and physical health of its beneficiaries. The initiative introduces yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, and guided physical exercises as part of a daily routine designed specifically for individuals living with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Through this initiative, a total of 32 individuals have successfully benefitted from the project. People living with MD and SMA often experience progressive muscle weakness and may require assistance with physical movements. Recognizing these challenges, the Susheelam project focuses on providing safe and supportive exercise practices that are suitable for their condition and abilities. Through regular practice of meditation, breathing exercises, and adapted physical activities, the project aims to help alleviate certain physical discomforts while also promoting relaxation, emotional balance, and mental strength. These practices contribute to creating a healthier and more positive environment for individuals managing these conditions. As part of the Susheelam initiative, “Rhythm Dance Therapy” sessions were also organized, in which 18 participants actively took part. The “21 Days Meditation Training Programme” was conducted for MIND members, with 7 participants engaging in guided meditation sessions aimed at improving focus, relaxation, and mental well-being. A meditation awareness poster was also released as part of the programme to highlight the importance of mindfulness and mental health. By encouraging consistent wellness practices, the Susheelam project supports beneficiaries in improving their overall well-being, strengthening their resilience, and maintaining a better quality of life.
