“Convert Dependent Into Contributors” “WE” is an initiative by Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust aimed at understanding and addressing the challenges faced by women living with Muscular Dystrophy (MD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Since 2020 onwards, the project has been working to empower women within the MIND community by strengthening their capacity, leadership skills, and overall well-being. The WE Project works toward the holistic development of women beneficiaries by supporting their mental, physical, and social needs. The initiative encourages women to move from being dependents to confident contributors within their communities, creating opportunities for growth, participation, and leadership. One of the key components of the project is the Dheera Women Cell, which provides psychological support and counselling for women living with MD and SMA. This initiative offers a safe and supportive space where women with disabilities can seek guidance, share their experiences, and receive emotional support. Another important initiative under the WE Project is the Jwala Program, which focuses on promoting the legal rights of women with disabilities and raising awareness about the challenges they face in society. The program works to address issues such as stigma, discrimination, and social barriers while encouraging a more inclusive and respectful environment for women with disabilities. In addition to advocacy and support initiatives, the WE Project also encourages talented women to explore and showcase their abilities in various creative fields such as dance, singing, and other artistic activities. The project provides a platform where women can express themselves and celebrate their talents. As part of these efforts, several activities have been organized under the WE Project, including the creation of a short film titled “WE,” the production of dance videos, and the organization of a one-day tour. These initiatives celebrate the achievements of women beneficiaries and inspire others to overcome challenges and pursue their goals. The WE Project also provides a dedicated communication platform for women with disabilities to discuss the challenges they face, share experiences, and support one another. This space fosters empowerment, solidarity, and collective advocacy for their rights and well-being. As part of the WE Project activities, the Talentia Programme was started on 11 July 2025 with the participation of 40 beneficiaries and will continue until May 2026. The programme focuses on digital literacy, awareness, entertainment, and talent development, providing women beneficiaries with opportunities to improve their digital knowledge, gain awareness on important topics, and showcase their creative abilities. Through these initiatives, MIND Trust continues to promote confidence, resilience, and empowerment among women beneficiaries. Since 2020 onwards, the WE Project has positively impacted the lives of 190 women beneficiaries.
Mobility in Dystrophy (MIND) Trust was formed in 2017, by us patients suffering from Muscular Dystrophy (MD) & Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). In 2016, we started off as a small Whatsapp group of patients reaching out to each other.
